Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart:
Sinfonia Concertante for Violin and Viola (Sarah and Hannah Girges soloists)
Symphony No. 41, “Jupiter”
Overture to Don Giovanni

SOLOISTS
Sarah Girges is a seventeen-year-old high school senior in Maple Valley, WA, who is a lifelong musician since the age of five. She started learning the violin at the age of 12 with the help of Mark and Ingrid Kovacs. Having played the violin for 5 years, she has been involved in her local youth orchestra, the Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra for about three years, as both principal 2nd violinist and Assistant Concertmaster. She is also a member of the Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra elite strings ensemble, who have been invited to play as the opener of the Auburn symphony orchestra and in many other formal venues and events. She is currently taking lessons with Cherlyn Johnson in Maple Valley, WA. But violin is not her only love! She started learning the piano at the age of five, and since then has entered and won numerous competitions (including first place at MTNA Senior duet nationals 2022, Chicago International competition 1st place, and Musicfest Northwest where she one five gold medals) and played in solo and duo settings to great accomplishment, recently being featured along with her sister Avah at the Santa Maria Philharmonic Music at the Library event at the end of July this year, and playing with her sister Hannah as guests on the Spokane Public Radio Broadcast. She loves the variety and opportunity that music affords to young artists such as herself and believes that the international language of music will bring peoples and nations together. She is excited to be playing Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with her sister and fellow violist, Hannah Girges.

Hannah Girges is a 15 year old homeschooled student who began her viola journey at the age of 10 with the help of Mark and Ingrid Kovacs. Hannah currently resides in Washington, where she has studied with Cherlyn Johnson. Her current teacher is Joseph Gottesman. She has been a member of the Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra as Principal Violist for 3 years, and a violist in the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra as of this year. Hannah has loved the competitiveness of music and has entered several competitions such as the Music Fest Northwest where she won a silver medal, The Russian Chamber Music Foundation of Seattle as a silver medalist, and winning 1st prize in the Charleston International Music Competition. She has soloed with the Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra as well as the Orchestral Recital Series of Tacoma, and has been featured as a guest artist on the Spokane Public Radio. She was also a featured soloist at the Russian Chamber Music Foundation summer concert.  Hannah looks forward to furthering her education in viola as she finishes her high school years and hopes to continue performing in the future. She would like to thank Mr. Mark Kovacs for the opportunity to work with the San Luis Chamber Orchestra, and she is thrilled to be performing the Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with her sister Sarah Girges. She hopes you enjoy the concert.
